Disney Content Pulled from YouTube TV After Not Reaching an Agreement with Google

Just the other day, we reported how Disney content may be pulled from YouTube TV if a deal wasn’t reached between Disney and Google regarding their partnership.

Google was negotiating with Disney about whether or not they will continue to distribute their content on YouTube TV.

YouTube TV and Disney’s partnership ended yesterday, Friday, December 17 and no agreement has been made.

Due to no longer having Disney content available on their platform, YouTube TV’s monthly price will drop by $15, from $64.99 to $49.99.

Google released a statement saying, “We’ve held good-faith negotiations with Disney for several months. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we’ve been unable to reach an equitable agreement before our existing one expired, and their channels are no longer available on YouTube TV. We will be decreasing our monthly price by $15, from $64.99 to $49.99, while this content remains off of our platform. We know this is frustrating news for our customers, and not what we wanted. We will continue conversations with Disney to advocate on your behalf in hopes of restoring their content on YouTube TV.”

Current subscribers to YouTube TV will also be receiving a $15 credit applied to their next bill.

Disney also released a statement saying, “We’ve been in ongoing negotiations with Google’s YouTube TV and unfortunately, they have declined to reach a fair deal with us based on market terms and conditions. As a result, their subscribers have lost access to our unrivaled portfolio of networks including live sports and news plus kids, family and general entertainment programming from ABC, the ESPN networks, the Disney channels, Freeform, the FX networks and the National Geographic channels. We stand ready to reach an equitable agreement with Google as quickly as possible in order to minimize the inconvenience to YouTube TV viewers by restoring our networks. We hope Google will join us in that effort.”

Because of this disagreement, the Disney-owned channels that have been pulled from YouTube TV include Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Freeform, FX, National Geographic, ESPN, and more.

YouTube TV subscribers have also lost access to any previous DVR recordings of Disney content.

  1. I subscribe to YouTube TV because it had Disney and hallmark. Now I’ve lost the Disney channels and I’m not to happy about it.

  2. Of course I subscribe to YouTube TV. Of course Disney keeps irritating me by the incessant demanding of more money from all parties. YouTube TV is very much symbolic of the pass holder not renewing their pass this year (cue Eric Wolfe’s echoing voice “I’m not paying it”).

  3. It’s so frustrating that Chapek and Disney continue to put profits above all else, the YouTube tv disaster is just the most recent example.

  4. I will be testing Fubo.tv . I will avoid Hulu as it is a Disney owned company and is probably why they are negotiating with You Tube. Disney figures that many of You Tube subscribers will change to Hulu. Not this kid. Walt Disney is turning over in his grave due to his namesake being dragged through the greedy mud.

  5. So it’s based on so-called “market terms and conditions,” is it? Sounds to me like Disney inflating their value and asking for an unreasonable amount. Be prepared for your subscription to cost a lot more if/when a deal is reached.
