Marvel Developing Wonder Man Series for Disney+ Helmed by ‘Shang-Chi’ Director

Marvel is developing a series about Wonder Man for Disney+, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Marvel has hired Destin Daniel Cretton, director and writer of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” to executive produce and possibly direct the series. He is joined by head writer Andrew Guest, known for episodes of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Community.” Guest was also a consulting producer for “Hawkeye.”

Cretton signed an overall deal with Marvel Studios last year after the success of “Shang-Chi” and is also working on a sequel for the film.

The live-action “Wonder Man” series is in early stages but production could begin in 2023.

The Wonder Man character was first introduced in Avengers No 9 in 1964 as a villain. He was reintroduced as a hero in the late 1970s. Wonder Man, a.k.a. Simon Williams, helped found the West Coast Avengers, and had a day job as an actor. The character was also frequently connected to Wanda Maximoff and Vision.

Exactly how Wonder Man will be portrayed in the MCU remains to be seen.
