REVIEW: The Lamington Dessert at the Australia Marketplace Leaves Us Wanting More at the 2022 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival

Last year was Australia’s grand return to the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, and we left feeling decent about the food booth. Now, with two returning dishes and a new dessert on the menu, let’s see how we feel about it this year!

The roasted lamb chop returns this year with the accompaniments of mint pesto and potato crunchies, last seen together at Wine & Dine Festival Favorites in 2020. Returning from an even longer absence is the Lamington, which last appeared in 2018. This year’s edition boasts a raspberry filling.

Grilled Sweet and Spicy Bush Berry Shrimp with Pineapple, Pepper, Onion, and Snap Peas – $6.50

There’s a few plump, spicy shrimp in this mixture of vegetables and seafood. The shrimp are cooked well enough to give them a great texture. All of the vegetables have the same flavorful spice to them, making this an interesting enough dish to warrant a purchase. In previous years the shrimp ranged from small to large, so your portion may vary.

We found the meat was rare. It was soft, tender, and fell apart when we cut it.

It had a great flavor with a good lamb note, although the mint pesto was strong (and delicious).

*NEW* Lamington: Yellow Cake with Raspberry Filling dipped in Chocolate and Coconut – $4.50

If you’re craving cake while visiting the festival, we highly recommend this one! The chocolate, which is covering the outside, tastes like dark chocolate. Topping the chocolate is a crunchy coconut, which is definitely noticeable, but not overpowering. The raspberry jam in the middle is a bit of a more subtle taste but still adds some sweetness.

The entire cake was moist and literally melts in your mouth. We loved this.

*NEW* Coopers Brewery Pacific Pale Ale (4.2% ABV) – $5.00 for 6 oz., $9.00 for 12 oz.

According to Coopers Brewery, “Coopers Pacific Pale Ale is a fresh, sessionable and fruity ale with a distinct dry hop character and mild bitterness. Displaying citrus aromas, subtle fruity overtones and the estery flavors of a Coopers Ale yeast, Pacific Pale Ale is brewed using the same secondary fermentation process as all our ales.”

*NEW* Yalumba ‘Y’ Viognier, South Australia ($11/bottle) – $6.00

Yalumba describes their ‘Y’ Viognier: “Bright straw in color with green hues. Aromas of orange blossom with fresh ginger, hints of honeysuckle and white flowers. Fresh apricot, white tea, dried figs and fennel lead to a creamy mid-palate with a silky, textural finish.”

Robert Oatley Chardonnay, Margaret River, Australia ($17/bottle) – $6.00

Robert Oatley describes their Chardonnay as “a bright, mid-weight, white peach-accented, gently oaked wine.”

Ch̢teau Tanunda Grand Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon, Barossa Valley, Australia ($17/bottle) Р$6.00

From Château Tanunda: “Lifted aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and vanilla are accompanied by vibrant, dark berry fruits on the palate. The finish is long with fine-grained tannins from 18 months maturation in a combination of new and older French oak hogsheads.”

*NEW* Jansz Premium Ros̩, Tasmania ($26/bottle) Р$8.50

From Jansz, this is “a vibrant sparkling Rosé showing aromas and flavors of strawberries, rose petals and fresh brioche, rich and creamy on the palate from the influence of both the grapes and tirage age. A vibrant yet delicate pink hue with a fine persistent bead. Turkish Delight and rose petal floral aromas combine with a textured mousse creaminess and strawberries on the palate to leave an elegant vibrancy and freshness.”
