REVIEW: New Italian Sausage Dog from Refreshment Corner at Disneyland

We’re in the dog days of summer, and that means it’s time for a new offering at Refreshment Corner in Disneyland: the Italian Sausage Dog!

A display of the sandwich can be found at the counter service eatery, next to a sign for the Rocket Soda.

Italian Sausage Dog – $12.79

Italian Sausage, Spicy Marinara, Mozzarella Cheese Sauce, Mozzarella, and Fried Pepperoni on a Hoagie Roll, includes a Cuties Mandarin Orange or Small Bag of Chips

This is a single Italian sausage split down the middle and laid across a large hoagie bun, then doused in spicy marinara and mozzarella cheese sauce and topped with shredded mozzarella and fried pepperoni. This is a decent, middle-of-the-road sandwich that hits the spot but doesn’t wow.

The sausage was a little overdone and tough, but not so bad that it was unpalatable. Meanwhile, the mozzarella cheese sauce seems unnecessary because while it doesn’t bring much in flavor, it does make the sandwich more messy and unwieldy.

We would have been happier with an extra handful of real mozzarella cheese instead of the sauce, but that is a minor note, and it doesn’t detract in any meaningful way from the overall appeal of the sandwich. The fried pepperoni was a huge hit, and we would enjoy ordering these as a side dish on their own.

In all, we enjoyed the sandwich, but it’s not worth a trip across the park.
