One of the last vestiges of the Hurricane Ian saga last week is the continued closure of Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. But it seems work at the site is complete, and the resort will reopen tomorrow.
A notice was posted on the Walt Disney World website informing the change. Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground previously closed on September 28 as Hurricane Ian barreled towards Florida. Guests whose reservations were impacted by the closure have been contacted by Disney and alternate accommodations were arranged.

Although I will never get the chance to ever visit again I am super glad to see Fort Wilderness open! That is where we always stayed when we visited Walt Disney World 🏰
It is my favorite because of all the memories that keep coming back to me. Young girls with little cares in the world. Plus, single and no children then. Remember the girls in # 2222!
I wanted to write to let you know that there’s a bit of factual inaccuracy in your post. You wrote “Guests whose reservations were impacted by the closure have been contacted by Disney and alternate accommodations were arranged.” My family has first-hand experience of that not being the case. We were scheduled to arrive at Fort Wilderness on October 2, and we were contacted by Disney on September 30 to let us know that the resort was closed and our entire vacation was canceled. No alternate accommodations arranged, offered, or even made possible by Disney. They also never contacted us after the initial email on September 30. There was no follow up from them at all, I had to initiate the communication to check on refunds as Disney essentially ghosted us after letting us know that our vacation was canceled.
Sorry to hear that, the above information is just what Disney provided.
FYI….Alternate accommodations were not arranged. We received an email the day before we were to check in stating they would not be able to accommodate the reservation and apologized, and said the reservation should be cancelled. I called and spent an hour on the phone but no alternate accommodations could be provided, so we had to cancel the reservation and find a hotel off site to stay for 5 nights. I was surprised, because that is not normally how Disney handles things. The trip was still a success, lots of fun and great memories made!
Same experience here as Jim above. We had made reservations for 10/7-10/9 4 months ago and made a deposit. I called on 10/5 to confirm and was informed that I had to cancel. Had I not called, and accidentally found out it was closed, we would have proceeded with our trip. I was also told it was closed indefinitely and they did not have a date for reopening. She assured me it would not be ready for when our trip was scheduled. Now I see that they actually opened on 10/7 and we could have proceeded as planned. I received no communication what so ever from Disney on this closure. No call, no text, no email. We understand things happen, we made the best of the disappointing news, however, why did they not reach out to me? Disney is a top notch organization (at least it used to be), how could this just slip by without no one reaching out. I was never informed of anything. The phone rep. only offered a cancellation, no alternative plan. For the price you have to pay, I should have been more important. Our plans should have been important enough to have someone reach out and inform us.
Are the carriage rides available on November 14th at Wilderness Campground? Do we need reservations?
