Let’s take a ride on the EPCOT Monorail and see how construction has progressed on Journey of Water, Inspired by “Moana.”

Earlier this month, the 16-foot-tall Te Fiti figure was installed in the walkthrough attraction, and she’s hard not to notice when looping around the center of the park.

In the foreground, scaffolding has been removed from around most of the rock structures. They are painted brown with details like faux moss. A square archway is also in the area. It is likely a support for a covered area, as pictured in the concept art at the end of this article.

The poles wrapped in plastic throughout Journey of Water are lampposts. Lanterns will dangle from the branches on top.

This area will be the entrance. Guests will first encounter the rocks with the Te Fiti swirl and pink flowers.

Once up and running, water will pour over the structures.

A cave-like structure is at the back of the construction site. Crew members were working on the ground in front of it when we went by.

The attraction will also have pools of water.

A dirt pathway cuts through the construction site for vehicles.

Over here are two awnings next to an in-ground structure with pipes for the water features.

Crews have been using a digger next to the awnings to move dirt.

Te Fiti can be seen in the center of the above concept art near a pool of water. The archway we pointed out may be the beginning of the covered area with two triangular awnings.

The attraction will have guests take a self-guided walk through interactive water elements. It’s part of the World Nature neighborhood at EPCOT. Guests will also be able to find hidden details such as Kakamora, Squirt from “Finding Nemo,” and more.

Journey of Water, Inspired by “Moana” is scheduled to open in late 2023.
