There are four to choose from — Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy. Each represents a different locomotive in service on the Walt Disney World Railroad.

The front of each bears the character to the right, with “Walt Disney World Railroad · 1971” wrapped around the left, and a Walt Disney World Railroad logo to the left of the character’s head. At the bottom are plates with five random numbers.

The back shows off each corresponding locomotive. Conductor Mickey is represented by the Walter E. Disney, a 4-6-0 Ten Wheeler. The numbers on each of these represent the number of leading wheels, powered and coupled driving wheels, and trailing wheels. The Walter E. Disney was first built in 1925 for United Railways of Yucatan, and was purchased by Disney in the 1960s for $8,000, which is nearly $70,000 today.

The Roger E. Broggie locomotive, which bears Donald’s face and is named for the first Disney Imagineer, has the same lineage. Currently this locomotive is at the Strasburg Railroad Workshop in Pennsylvania for refurbishment, which took around four years when the Walter E. Disney was sent to the shop in 2016.

Minnie meanwhile has the Lilly Belle locomotive on the back, named for the 1/8 scale railroad locomotive which Broggie built in Walt Disney’s backyard and was named for Walt’s wife Lillian. The Lilly Belle is a 2-6-0 Mogul, built in 1926 for United Railways of Yucatan as well.

Finally, Goofy’s coin relates to the Roy O. Disney locomotive, built in 1916 as a 4-4-0 American for the United Railways of Yucatan.

All four of these coins are now available at Main Street, U.S.A. Station on the Walt Disney World Railroad. If you can’t make it out to the Magic Kingdom just yet, check out our POV of the railroad’s return late last year below.
