Sneak Peek Inside Reimagined Mickey’s Toontown Including Minnie’s House, Goofy’s How-To-Play Yard, and Chip & Dale’s Gadget Coaster

Disney has given a sneak peek into the reimagined Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland before it opens this Sunday, March 19.

Mickey’s Toontown Redesign Focuses on Guest Comfort

In an interview with the Orange County Register, Imagineers discussed the redesign, noting that they wanted Toontown to be “decompressing and welcoming.” They repainted the land with calm in mind and brought in more greenery.

They also specifically noted that guests found it hard to find shade in Toontown’s previous iteration and tried to add shady trees to compensate.

Mickey's Toontown features repainted exteriors and more greenery.

Minnie’s House is largely the same, and has been refreshed with a much-needed coat of paint.

Guests will be able to find Mickey and Minnie Mouse and their whole crew available on rotation for meet and greet experiences. This character group in also includes a very special debut of Pete! He will be available for guests to interact with for the first time ever in Disney Parks.

Pete is a long-standing character in the Disney universe. He first appeared in the 1925 Alice comedy short film called “Alice Solves the Puzzle,” where he was known as “Bootleg Pete.” This early version of Pete was a villainous bear who frequently got into trouble with the law.

The version of Pete found in the parks is a more modern version, synonymous with the character found in recent media and video games, including the “Kingdom Hearts” series, as well as Gameloft’s mobile game “Disney Magic Kingdoms.”

Goofy’s House is now part of Goofy’s How-To-Play Yard with interactive elements throughout, such as a musical bridge, Fort Max, and a hill with roller slides. Goofy’s How-To-Play Yard incorporates a sound garden where kids will discover new ways to make wacky noises, as well as an all-new, elevated clubhouse. Inside Goofy’s House, guests can help operate an interactive candy-making contraption that only Goofy could imagine.

Donald’s Boat is “flooding,” and while this means guests can’t go inside, it’s now a water play area. Donald’s Duck Pond will help little ones get their wiggles out and make a splash. Perched in the duck pond, Donald’s Boat is surrounded by larger-than-life spinning water lilies, balance beams, and rocking toys. Explorers can look into the boat’s portholes to witness bubbles of fun inside featuring familiar ducklings Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Webby.

The land will also have a new lighting package at night. While it will still have to close during fireworks, it will reopen with lighting designed to “look really beautiful at night in a whole new way that you’re not used to seeing the land come to life.”

This includes a special “goodnight kiss” at the CenTOONial Park fountain with half an hour of water, light, and music before the park’s nighttime spectaculars.

You can compare the new look with our full photo and video tour of Mickey’s Toontown from just before its closure in March 2022.
