The first trailer has been released for “A Disturbance in the Force,” a documentary about the creation of the infamous “Star Wars Holiday Special.”
The documentary will premiere at SXSW this month, with its first showing on Saturday, March 11 at 8:45 p.m.
The “A Disturbance in the Force” website reads, “In 1978, George Lucas decided to capitalize on the STAR WARS craze by producing a holiday variety TV special. What could possibly go wrong? ANSWER: Everything… From the filmmakers behind NAPOLEON DYNAMITE and RAIDERS! comes A DISTURBANCE IN THE FORCE, a documentary about the infamous STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL[.]”

Disney has begun to embrace some elements of the “Star Wars Holiday Special” in the past few years, specifically when it comes to the winter holiday Life Day. Life Day merchandise has been available at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on both coasts and a special Life Day drink was available on Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.
