Mickey wears a red marching band uniform consisting of a shirt, pants, and hat with gold accents. He marches with a gold conductor wand in one hand. Next to him is a swirl of sheet music and his name spelled out across it, reminiscent of the “Mickey Mouse Club March.”

The Band Concert

Before the Mickey Mouse Club premiered in 1955, Mickey conducted a seated band in “The Band Concert,” a 1935 animated short film produced in 3-strip Technicolor. While the film was the 73rd to feature Mickey Mouse, it was the first film to feature him in color. “The Band Concert” tells the story of a small concert band conducted by Mickey Mouse which struggles through a distraction-filled public performance at the park.

In “The Band Concert,” Mickey wears a red robe with green and gold accents that almost certainly inspired his future red band leader uniform.

“The Band Concert” was recently honored with a Loungefly mini backpack as part of the Disney100 1930s Decades Collection. The collection also featured a “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” ear headband, a set of Three Little Pigs plush, and items featuring Clarabelle Cow and Horace Horsecollar.

Dooney & Bourke released “The Band Concert” bag collection and matching MagicBand.

A few years ago, Tokyo Disney Resort celebrated “The Band Concert” with a drum-shaped popcorn bucket.

Sheet music and a drum from “The Band Concert” are in the Mickey Through the Ears exhibit at Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disneyland.
