The upcoming Disney+ film “Peter Pan & Wendy” has a new official trailer ahead of its April 28 release. The first trailer and initial release date announcement was made back in February. It will stream exclusively on Disney+.
Peter Pan Invites You to Neverland
The film stars Jude Law as Captain Hook, Alexander Molony as Peter Pan, Ever Anderson as Wendy Darling, Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell, Alyssa Wapanatâhk as Tiger Lily, Jim Gaffigan as Mr. Smee, Molly Parker as Mary Darling, and Alan Tudyk as George Darling. David Lowery (“Pete’s Dragon”) directs, with Jim Whitaker as producer and a screenplay by Lowery and Toby Halbrooks.
Wendy and her brothers encounter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up, and follow him away from their home on a journey to the far and fantastical Neverland. There, they encounter the evil Captain Hook, entangling themselves in Neverland’s greatest adventures and most dangerous conflicts.
This live-action Disney+ film is a remake of the 1953 Disney animated classic, which traces its own origin to the 1904 play “Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up,” by J.M. Barrie.
The story has been utilized in cinema multiple times, from Steven Spielberg’s “Hook” to Disney’s own “Return to Never Land” — a 2002 sequel to the animated film following Wendy’s daughter Jane amid the Second World War.
“Peter Pan & Wendy” will be the first time Disney has ventured back to feature-length big screen Pan adventures in over twenty years.
Pan in the Parks
The original Disney animated feature inspired Peter Pan’s Flight at Disneyland Park in California, a rail-suspended dark ride voyage from the Darling residence through London, toward the second star to the right, straight on ’til morning, and off to Neverland. It is one of a handful of opening day attractions still operating, and has proven popular enough to prompt duplicates in Orlando, Tokyo, Paris, and Shanghai. It is entirely common for queues to exceed an hour on a regular basis.
At the Tokyo Disney Resort, a $2 billion expansion of Tokyo DisneySea is underway, with the largest component being a new Fantasy Springs land. This massive new area will contain experiences from “Frozen,” “Tangled,” and “Peter Pan.”
The area devoted to Pan is entirely unprecedented and original, with a fully immersive and explorable Neverland being constructed. Skull Rock, Captain Hook’s ship, and towering mountains will be on full display. A construction update from 2022 may be viewed here:
The Neverland section will likely feature one large E-ticket attraction, a Lost Boys restaurant, and a smaller Pixie Hollow-themed attraction. On the main experience, guests will join Peter Pan in an adventure to rescue Wendy’s younger brother, John, who has been kidnapped by Captain Hook and his pirates. According to the plans and information known so far, guests board boats and follow the Lost Boys down a river. When Tinker Bell sprinkles these boats with pixie dust, riders suddenly find themselves flying through Neverland on an unprecedented adventure that features nostalgic music and dynamic 3D imagery of the characters from the film.
