Although the Jolly Trolley no longer runs through the streets of Toontown at Tokyo Disneyland, guests have long been able to take a photo with the former attraction right outside its barn. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this photo op went missing, but has finally returned to the park!

Right outside the Trolley Barn at the park, near Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin, guests can still visit the former attraction. All of its tracks have been covered over for years, but the trolley itself remains!

The trolley looks nice as ever, having received a fresh coat of paint during its absence. A sign atop reads “Jolly Trolley” while the classic red, white, yellow, and blue paint scheme highlights the cartoonish vehicle.

A rope hangs off the trolley to allow guests to ring the bell. The crank on the back side still turns after all these years as well!

Jolly Trolley

The Jolly Trolley was an opening day attraction at both versions of Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland. The bouncy transportation ride took guests on a tour around Toontown, allowing guests to enjoy a leisurely ride around the world of the Toons. It opened January 26, 1993 at Disneyland and operated for a decade, closing in December 2003 due to crowding increases in the land. For more than 15 years, it was parked at its former station near the land’s entrance as a photo op before being unceremoniously removed in June 2019. Its former station had been used as a Disney Vacation Club kiosk for many years before being removed in the 2022-23 reimagining of the land. The area where the Jolly Trolley once stood is now part of CenTOONial Park, and all track has been removed from Toontown.

Meanwhile at Tokyo Disneyland, the trolley opened with the land on April 15, 1996 and held on a bit longer, operating for 13 years until April 14, 2009. Toontown here is a mirror image of the version at Disneyland, but still had the Jolly Trolley station right inside the land, where it remains standing today with benches for seating as it has for nearly 30 years.

While the Oriental Land Company never gave a detailed reason, it’s likely that increased crowding at the park in addition to minor incidents over the years contributed to the end of the Jolly Trolley at Tokyo Disneyland. Surface level transit attractions do still exist, guests can ride the Omnibus around the hub at Tokyo Disneyland or the themed Big City Vehicles around American Waterfront over at Tokyo DisneySea.
