The official 25th anniversary of Disney’s Animal Kingdom is today, and tons of various snacks, refreshments, and culinary offerings are available during the festivities. We tried the new Colossal Elephant Roll in Africa at Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery.

This coffee shop is located in the Harambe area of Africa, across from Mombasa Marketplace and Ziwani Traders, before reaching Kilimanjaro Safaris.

The cinnamon roll itself is large and very soft. It’s airy and open inside, but the dough itself is of a standard consistency. The banana caramel sauce is fantastic, with a subtle flavor that adds a bit of a tropical twist.

Unfortunately, due to the size of the pastry, there is a dearth of the luscious caramel, which leaves you with a basic, dry cinnamon roll once you run out of topping. We’d still recommend this item if you enjoy sweet breakfast pastries, though the bakery should take a note from Cinnabon and ensure a sufficient ooey gooey glaze to support the entirety of the pastry.

The 25th Anniversary of Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Celebrations across the park are in full swing today as the precise date of the park’s 25th anniversary arrives. A special ceremony was held at 8:30 a.m. this morning around the Tree of Life with characters, the Tam Tam Drummers of Harambe, and Animal Kingdom Vice-President Sarah Riles.

The highly-anticipated Moana meet and greet also debuted, offering guests the chance to meet her at Character Landing on Discovery Island, a former Discovery River Boats station.
