“Mulan” 25th Anniversary Merchandise

Other merchandise has also been released, specifically in celebration of “Mulan” turning 25 this year. A resin statue can be found at Art of Disney, and a limited edition doll, designed to look like Mulan wearing a Hanfu, is available at Bonjour! Village Gifts.

“Mulan” was first released in theaters on June 19, 1998, in the United States. It is a retelling of an old Chinese folktale about a young Chinese woman who learns that her elderly and disabled father is to be called up into the army in order to fight the invading Huns. Knowing that he would never survive the difficulties of war, she decides to disguise herself as a male and join in his stead.

Unknown to her, Mulan’s ancestors are aware of this plan. In an effort to prevent it, they command a tiny disgraced dragon, Mushu, to join her in order to force Mulan to abandon her plan. He agrees to the task, but when he meets Mulan, he learns that she cannot be dissuaded and so decides instead to help her in the dangerous times ahead.
