After having half of Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree closed last week, the refurbishment has now moved on to the other half of the ride. Since the ride can operate at half capacity, it is not listed on the refurbishment schedule.

Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree Refurbishment

Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree is one of three attractions in Cars Land, along with Radiator Springs Racers and Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters.

Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree is a whip ride in the Cars Land area of Disney California Adventure, with narration from Larry the Cable Guy. It is very similar to Alien Swirling Saucers at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and The Happy Ride with Baymax at Tokyo Disneyland, though they are all heavily distinct in their aesthetics.

Themed wood construction walls are up around half of the attraction. Last week, similar walls were erected around the opposite half of the attraction.

Signs on the walls state the ride is undergoing refurbishment.

The queue may be longer with only half of the attraction’s space running, but it is considered better than a full closure. Nothing major has been announced so far, indicating this is either routine maintenance or potentially some sort of minor repair.

During the fall, Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree becomes Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree and at Christmas-time, it becomes Mater’s Jingle Jamboree.

Cars Land

Cars Land opened in 2012, the core of an over $1 billion expansion of Disney California Adventure after years of struggle with small size and an inadequate amount of qualitative rides. Before this space was Cars Land, most of it was a parking lot. A more general car-themed land called Carland was actually in development when Pixar’s “Cars” hit it big in 2006 and Disney decided to shift gears to the IP.

Radiator Springs Racers is a slot car dark ride similar to Test Track at EPCOT and Journey to the Center of the Earth at Tokyo DisneySea.

Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters is a trackless ride using similar technology as Aquatopia at Tokyo DisneySea (but without water). It opened in 2016, replacing the short-lived Luigi’s Flying Tires, a bumper/hover-car ride that was plagued with issues.
