The Disney Careers website has posted a new casting call for a solo jazz pianist to portray Joe Gardner from Disney-Pixar’s animated film, “Soul.”

This new posting is seeking jazz pianists for an upcoming offering at Disneyland Resort, where the performers will portray Joe Gardner from “Soul.” Read the official posting details below:

SOLO JAZZ PIANIST to portray Joe Gardner from Pixar’s SOUL

  • For: Disneyland Resort

Disney Live Entertainment is seeking JAZZ PIANISTS for an upcoming offering located at The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, CA.

Performers in this offering are covered under the terms and conditions of a collective bargaining agreement with the American Federation of Musicians. All those auditioning for the role(s) below must be eligible and willing to join AFM or be a member in good standing.

Performer must be able to play proficiently in the solo piano jazz style. Will be required to learn specific music. Performer must be able to engage with guests within the story of the film. Knowledge of jazz music and historical musicians a plus.

SEEKING THE FOLLOWING ROLE:

Joe Gardner as seen in the Pixar film SOUL.

Middle-school band teacher from New York City has always loved teaching, but underlying was a passion for playing jazz piano professionally. After one small misstep takes him from the streets of NYC to “The Great Before”, he gets a second chance at life, and finds himself ready and eager to share his knowledge and talents with the world!

Rate:

Multiple musician roles available; the pay range is between $41.18 per hour and $63.83 per hour, depending on role assignment. Roles are defined in the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) Collective Bargaining Agreement (Disneyland Resort and Orange County Musicians’ Union, Local No.7).

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be available for an in-person callback on September 12, 2023 in Anaheim.
  • To submit interest for this role, you must complete ALL of the below instructions:

STEP 1 – Create/Update your Disney Auditions Profile by clicking “My Profile”.

  • Add a recent headshot, resume, and current availability. Please make sure all contact information is correct.
  • Upload your audition video.
    • Select a jazz piece and record a video of yourself doing the following:
      • Your name
      • Name of the selected piece
      • Why you are passionate about the piece
      • Fun fact about the composer
      • 2-minute excerpt of piece
    • Upload your video to a sharing site like YouTube or Vimeo (if using YouTube, please mark the video as “Unlisted”).
    • Copy and paste the link to your video into your Disney Auditions profile, under the “Links” section, and label your link as “Joe Gardner Submission”.

STEP 2 – Check-in Instructions

  • Once your video is loaded to your profile, go to Checkin.disneyauditions.com.
  • Select the audition: “SOLO JAZZ PIANIST to portray Joe Gardner from Pixar’s SOUL”.
  • Take a selfie to complete the submission process.
  • You are all set! Please do not submit more than once.

This would be Joe Gardner’s Disney Parks debut as a character, though he will likely not be meeting guests in the traditional sense.

Disney and Pixar’s “Soul” has had other representation in the parks, though, including a temporary exhibit in EPCOT’s he American Adventure Pavilion, a new lounge themed to the film aboard the Disney Magic cruise ship, and Joe even had his own Fab 50 statue for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration.
