A new collection of pins inspired by Eric Tan’s Moonliner astronaut figurine series has rocketed into Disneyland and Walt Disney World, with eight characters in this limited edition collection. The edition size is 1,075, split between the two parks. We found them at Frontierland Trading Post in Magic Kingdom.
Mickey Mouse Moonliner Astronaut Pin – $49.99 (Limited Edition)
Each pin’s number in the collection is notated on the packaging, with Mickey Mouse being the first of the octet. “Design by Eric Tan” is printed at the top of the pyramid-looking box, along with his signature. The signatures on the boxes are not real, though Tan himself has been providing autographs at the Disneyland Resort.
Mickey stands on the moon in astronaut regalia amid a backdrop of stars.
For every pin in this collection, a smaller mystery pin is included in the box. Mickey Mouse has a twinkling flag that he can plant on the moon he’s just explored.
Each pyramidal cardboard box can actually be unfolded into a work of art, with a little pedestal for the pin itself.
Alice Moonliner Astronaut Pin – $49.99 (Limited Edition)
Alice in sporting her blue and white dress, with black space bows sticking outside of her helmet.
Her tiny pin is a bottle of the “Drink Me” potion she drinks to shrink tremendously in size.
Jack Skellington Moonliner Astronaut Pin – $49.99 (Limited Edition)
Jack Skellington (of “The Nightmare Before Christmas”) is next.
Looking rather unhappy to be in space, Jack comes with a miniature grinning pumpkin pin.
Stitch Moonliner Astronaut Pin – $49.99 (Limited Edition)
Stitch, no stranger to interstellar travel, comes in an orange and white spacesuit specially fitted to accommodate his flapping ears and extra limbs.
He is paired with a miniature blaster pin, perhaps to help thwart the Galactic Federation.
Minnie Mouse Moonliner Astronaut Pin – $49.99 (Limited Edition)
Minnie Mouse gleefully rests in a chic blue and pink spacesuit.
Her mystery pin is a small case containing a flower, to bring life to the stars.
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit Moonliner Astronaut Pin – $49.99 (Limited Edition)
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is sixth in the set, looking as though he’s in a deep slumber.
To pair with his deep blue and black outfit, a black bottle of ink with a blue paintbrush is his miniature pin. Oswald was created before Mickey Mouse, drawn to life by Ub Iwerks and Walt Disney.
Marie Moonliner Astronaut Pin – $49.99 (Limited Edition)
Marie (of “The Aristocats”) swoops in with a white and pink cat astronaut outfit, looking excited to be on an adventure.
She is accompanied by a miniature pin that is a pink ball of yarn.
Peter Pan Moonliner Astronaut Pin – $49.99 (Limited Edition)
Peter Pan is the final member of the set, retaining his iconic green outfit, with an added helmet for when he flies a little bit beyond Never Land.
His miniature pin is a thimble, probably for none other than Tinker Bell.
Disney Character Moonliner Astronaut Figurines by Eric Tan
These pins take after the original vinyl figure set designed by Tan, which includes the same eight Disney characters as astronauts.
You can currently purchase all eight figures online at shopDisney. If you do collect all of them, you can put together the complete Moonliner (seen in the top right), the iconic rocket seen in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland from opening day through 1967.
