REVIEW: Australia Returns with Lamington Cake, Crunchy Pesto Lamb Chop, and More for the 2023 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival

Australia marketplace lovers rejoice as the Lamington has returned! This yellow cake was one of our favorite desserts last year, and we’re ecstatic to see it returned for the 2023 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival. Along with the Lamington, the Roasted Lamb Chop and Bush Berry Shrimp also returned, along with a couple of different Australian wines.

Grilled Sweet-and-Spicy Bush Berry Shrimp with Pepper, Onion, Snap Peas and Coconut-Chili Sauce – $6.75

There are a few plump, spicy shrimp in this mixture of vegetables and seafood. The shrimp are cooked well enough to give them a great texture. All of the vegetables have the same flavorful spice to them, making this an interesting enough dish to warrant a purchase. In previous years the shrimp ranged from small to large, so your portion may vary.

Roasted Lamb Chop with Mint Pesto and Potato Crunchies – $8.75

We found the meat was rare. It was soft, tender, and fell apart when we cut it.

It had a great flavor with a good lamb note, although the mint pesto was strong (and delicious).

Lamington: Yellow Cake with Raspberry Filling with Chocolate and Coconut – $4.50

If you’re craving cake while visiting the festival, we highly recommend this one! The chocolate, which is covering the outside, tastes like dark chocolate. Topping the chocolate is a crunchy coconut, which is definitely noticeable, but not overpowering. The raspberry jam in the middle is a bit of a more subtle taste but still adds some sweetness.

The entire cake was moist and literally melts in your mouth. We loved this.

Yalumba ‘The Y Series’ Viognier, South Australia – $6.50

Yalumba describes their ‘Y’ Viognier: “Bright straw in color with green hues. Aromas of orange blossom with fresh ginger, hints of honeysuckle and white flowers. Fresh apricot, white tea, dried figs and fennel lead to a creamy mid-palate with a silky, textural finish.”

*NEW* Château Tanunda Grand Barossa Shiraz, Barossa Valley, Australia ($17/bottle) – $6.00

From Château Tanunda: “Lifted aromas of blackberry, plum and black pepper are accompanied by spicy, dark berry fruits on the palate.”

*NEW* Coopers Brewery Pacific Pale Ale – $5.50 for 6 oz., $9.50 for 12 oz.

According to Coopers Brewery, “Coopers Pacific Pale Ale is a fresh, sessionable and fruity ale with a distinct dry hop character and mild bitterness. Displaying citrus aromas, subtle fruity overtones and the estery flavors of a Coopers Ale yeast, Pacific Pale Ale is brewed using the same secondary fermentation process as all our ales.”
