One of the rarer characters from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” can now join you on your next visit to Walt Disney World as a shoulder plush: Vampire Teddy Bear (also referred to as Scary Teddy). We found this new item at Gateway Gifts in EPCOT, located underneath Spaceship Earth.
Vampire Teddy Bear Shoulder Plush – $24.49
Scary Teddy is relatively small in size, with a wide, toothy grin and black & white stitched clothing.
In the classic 1993 film, Jack Skellington gives this teddy as a Christmas gift to an unsuspecting boy and girl while his multiple attempts at kindhearted presents to the people of Christmas Town turn out to be terrifying. When it comes to life, the children scream in shock as the possessed vampire begins to fly and chase them.
On the back, our Vampire Teddy Bear sports a ghost-like cape.
In 2021, another shoulder plush inspired by this film was released: Zero, Jack’s loyal ghost dog companion.
‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’
Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is a musical stop-motion film released in 1993. Though it was produced and conceived by Tim Burton, inspired by a poem he wrote, it was directed by Henry Selick. Danny Elfman wrote the film’s songs and sang for Jack Skellington, who was otherwise voiced by Chris Sarandon.
“The Nightmare Before Christmas” follows Jack of Halloween Town, who is dissatisfied with his life as Pumpkin King. He discovers Christmas Town and decides to take over the winter holiday, going so far as to have Santa Claus (or “Sandy Claws”) abducted so he can take his place.
The cast also includes Catherine O’Hara as Sally, Jack’s love interest, as well as Shock, one of three mischievous trick-or-treaters. William Hickey is Doctor Finkelstein, Glenn Shadix is Halloween Town’s Mayor, Ken Page is Oogie Boogie, and Ed Ivory is Santa Claus.
Every holiday season at Disneyland Park, the classic Haunted Mansion attraction is re-decorated and re-themed with characters and stories from the film, in Haunted Mansion Holiday. Scary Teddy even makes an appearance, causing mayhem around the manor.
Jack and Sally usually appear at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Magic Kingdom. There will also be a “The Nightmare Before Christmas” sing-along at Disney Jollywood Nights in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
