Add “one little spark” to your fridge with this new Figment magnet available at Walt Disney World. It matches the Figment ornament previously released and we found it at the Imagination! Pavilion in EPCOT.
Figment Magnet – $12.77
The magnet is shaped like a lightbulb, with “One little spark lights up for you” on an orange border.
A yellow lightbulb is in the center, adorned with Figment’s purple face.
History of Figment
Figment debuted alongside Dreamfinder as part of Journey into Imagination, a beloved attraction that first opened its doors and guests’ minds in March of 1983, a few months after EPCOT Center’s opening. The ride demonstrated the beauty, power, and wonder of imagination to guests. Figment and Dreamfinder became pseudo-mascots of the park.
Given EPCOT Center’s original goal of being an education-oriented experience, traditional Disney characters recognizable to parkgoers were not initially used in meet-and-greets or as walk-around attractions. Original characters created for the park were instead used in this role, with Figment and Dreamfinder being two characters that guests could interact with.
Journey Into Imagination closed in 1998, re-opening as Journey into YOUR Imagination in late 1999. The new attraction was made to connect to the Honey, I Shrunk the Audience! show that opened in 1994 and also inhabited the Imagination Pavilion. References to Figment were largely absent in this version of the ride, which closed just two years after its debut.
Figment was re-introduced to the ride in 2002, with the ride re-opening as Journey into Imagination with Figment in June of that year. Though the attraction is perhaps not as beloved as it once was, Figment remains an ever-popular icon, consistently appearing on new merchandise:
- New Figment Loungefly Backpack Debuts at EPCOT
- New Sparkly Figment Tumbler at Walt Disney World
- New Figment MagicBand+ on shopDisney
- New Open Edition Figment EPCOT Pin Now Available
A new Figment meet and greet will open soon, likely replacing the Vanellope meet and greet that recently closed.
In 2022, Deadline revealed that a Figment film was in development from Seth Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures with Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit attached as writers.
