BREAKING: ‘Luminous: The Symphony of Us’ Nighttime Spectacular Debuting at EPCOT December 5

The name for the new EPCOT nighttime spectacular has been announced — “Luminous: The Symphony of Us” will debut on December 5, 2023, the company announced at Destination D23 Saturday.

New Nighttime Spectacular Coming to EPCOT

President of Walt Disney World Jeff Vahle announced that the show will feature “fireworks, fountains, lasers, lighting effects, and music” while on stage during the “A Celebration of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” panel at Destination D23.

“Luminous: The Symphony of Us” will technically replace “EPCOT Forever,” but serves as a permanent replacement for “Harmonious” following the latter show’s stoppage in April 2023. “Harmonious” was announced at Destination D23 in 2018 and debuted in October 2021 for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World, replacing “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth,” which had been showing since 1999.

“Harmonious” ran for the final time on April 2, 2023, to make way for its ultimate replacement, which at that point was an unnamed upcoming nighttime spectacular celebrating “100 Years of Wonder and the 40th anniversary of EPCOT” that was announced in September 2022. “Harmonious” was temporarily replaced by the returning “EPCOT Forever,” the interim show that ran in the period between the closure of “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” and the opening of “Harmonious.”

“Luminous: The Symphony of Us” will miss the start of Disney100 celebrations at EPCOT; those are slated to start September 22.

EPCOT Reimagining

“Luminous: The Symphony of Us” will be the second permanent nighttime spectacular to debut at EPCOT as part of a years-long park reimagining. The park has been overhauled in recent years and has been divided into four neighborhoods: World Celebration, World Discovery, World Nature, and the long-present World Showcase. Disney announced at Destination D23 2023 that World Celebration, an area that features the new Dreamers Point and Walt the Dreamer statue, will formally open this December.

Several new attractions were added to EPCOT as part of the reimagining; Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure opened inside the France Pavilion in late 2021, while Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, a thrill ride inside of World Discovery, opened in 2022. Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, a walkthrough attraction exploring the Earth’s water cycle, has been under construction for quite some time and will open alongside a Moana meet and greet on October 16, 2023, the company announced at this year’s Destination D23.

Though large-scale alterations and additions seem to be complete, additional changes will be occurring in the coming years. Disney announced at Destination D23 2023 that Walt Disney Imagineering is currently in the midst of reimagining Test Track. The “next iteration” of Test Track will be inspired by and implement “that spirit of optimism” from World of Motion, an opening day attraction at EPCOT that was replaced by Test Track in 1999 (though World of Motion closed in 1996).
