REVIEW: Try Before You Deny! ‘Stranger Things’ Surfer Boy Pizza Brings Pineapple Pizza and More to Halloween Horror Nights 2023 in Universal Studios Hollywood

Surfer Boy Pizza

Delivered hot to your door! Well, not really. You can’t have Surfer Boy Pizza delivered, but you can visit the Surfer Boy Pizza van window and give the pineapple pizza a try. This year’s Halloween Horror Nights event features Stranger Things 4, so Surfer Boy Pizza has popped up on the Lower Lot exclusively for the event at Universal Studios Hollywood. Does pineapple belong on pizza and wings? Yes.

Universal Studios Hollywood Surfer Boy Pizza Facade Van 3

The facade of the food location is the Surfer Boy Pizza van and it really works out nicely. Surfer Boy Pizza is only open on event nights, so it draws a crowd.

The “Righteous Menu” includes Try Before You Deny, Meat Lovers Pizza, and Pineapple Buffalo Wings. The Hellfire Pop you can also find at the Stellar Bar is under “Sweets, Dude”. There are also “Tubular Beverages” and “Gnarly Drinks” like the non-alcoholic Tropical Dream Punch, and the alcoholic Surfer Boy. Surfer Boy can also be found at the Stellar Bar.

Try Before You Deny – $14.99

Try Before You Deny! These pizzas are served in themed Surfer Boy Pizza boxes. It might just be your basic box with a Surfer Boy Pizza sticker on it, but that really makes a huge difference in the experience. That simple little touch impressed us even before we got to the actual pizza.

This pizza looks and smells amazing. There’s a plentiful amount of toppings, especially pineapple. The crust is cooked perfectly and well seasoned. Now it’s time to try, even though we would never deny.

This has got to be the best theme park pizza we’ve ever had. We ordered this two nights in a row and both times were perfect experiences. Consistency is key.

The pizza was hot and fresh and full of flavor. The pineapple, jalapeno, and pepperoni are the perfect trio. Universal Orlando has a Surfer Boy Pizza stand available for their Halloween Horror Nights, but their “pizza” is a fail in comparison to this one.

This could be a nightly thing for us here at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood. It makes a great late night meal to keep you going or even something to grab last minute before you leave the park for the night. From the delicious toppings to the themed box, we loved everything about this pizza.

Hellfire Pop – $6.99

The Hellfire Pop is layers of chocolate cake and vanilla frosting with a white chocolate guitar. The top of the pop looks like flames and is covered in edible glitter. It’s so sparkly! The chocolate cake was a bit average, but the vanilla buttercream was nice and sweet. This is a simple treat that will please most, but it’s not really worth going out of your way for.

Surfer Boy – $17

The Surfer Boy is an alcoholic drink of tequila, melon liqueur, kiwi, lemonade, Sprite, and comes topped with cotton candy and a sugar surfboard.

The cotton candy on top will disintegrate into your drink the moment it touches the liquid, so be careful. The sugar surfboard sits perfectly on top and very slowly soaks in the drink. The cotton candy, unfortunately, just sugar bombs the drink and adds a gritty texture on top and bottom. Prior to the cotton candy melting into the drink, it was an extremely refreshing drink, similar to a jolly rancher. The melon and kiwi give it a sweet taste already, so the extra sugar wasn’t necessary. We would order this drink again, but would prefer it without the cotton candy on top next time. This drink can also be found at the Stellar Bar.

Overall, Surfer Boy Pizza had our favorite menu for Halloween Horror Nights. We enjoyed everything we tried and give the whole experience extra points for the themed pizza boxes. If you’re visiting Universal Studios Hollywood for Halloween Horror Nights, you must get the Try Before You Deny at Surfer Boy Pizza on the Lower Lot.
