More zombies than ever before are appearing at Universal Studios Japan for Halloween Horror Nights 2023 as part of Street Zombies. This roaming scarezone has been part of every Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Japan since 2013.
Street Zombies at Halloween Horror Nights 2023
Zombies take over from 6:00 p.m. to park close, appearing “right beside you, in front of you, inside cages where they’re held captive” and hunting guests.
During the media preview we attended, the zombies weren’t roaming much, they were just available for photo opportunities.
A number of zombies stumble around wielding noisy chainsaws. They’re flanked by other performers wearing costumes depicting oversized insects, monsters, and demonic clowns, among other frightening creatures.
Some of these zombies have appeared as part of Street Zombies in the past, but a number of them are new. Our favorite addition is a muscular zombie who wanders around in search of protein (and sometimes broccoli). He can communicate with guests, but don’t get too comfortable, as he’ll take every opportunity he can to scare you.
All of the zombies gathered to take a group photo during the press event, but this isn’t a normal occurrence.
There are several areas where you may encounter Street Zombies throughout the park. Below is an official Halloween map from the Universal Studios Japan website that contains “Zombie” and “Safe” areas.
