“Daredevil: Born Again” has put together a team… the Disney+ show’s new creative team, according to Variety.
‘Daredevil’ Disney+ Show Gets New Creative Team
Dario Scardapane, writer and executive producer of Netflix’s Marvel series “The Punisher,” will now serve as showrunner for the series. This change follows the exit of previous head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman, who recently left after Marvel decided to take the show in a different direction, according to Variety. The pair will still be credited as executive producers.
In addition to Scardapane, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who directed Marvel’s “Moon Knight” series and are the lead directors on the current season of “Loki,” will step in to direct the rest of the first season of “Daredevil: Born Again.”
Marvel released the previously-hired directors after production shut down during the SAG-AFTRA strike, which is still ongoing. Some of the material that has already been filmed will be incorporated into the series.
Charlie Cox is set to return as Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil, in the series. Vincent D’Onofrio, who starred as Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk, will also return. Both actors portrayed these characters in the Netflix “Daredevil” series from 2015-2018.
MCU Future
“Loki” season 2 is currently airing on Disney+. Read our reviews of episode 1, episode 2, and episode 3.
“The Marvels” is the next MCU film coming to theaters, on November 10, 2023. It will be followed by “Deadpool 3” on May 3, 2024; “Captain America: Brave New World” on July 26, 2024; “Thunderbolts” on December 20, 2024; and “Blade” concluding Phase Five on February 14, 2025.
Films planned for Phase Six include “Fantastic Four” on May 2, 2025; “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” on May 1, 2026; and “Avengers: Secret Wars” on May 7, 2027.
“Armor Wars,” a “Shang-Chi” sequel, an X-Men film, and another “Spider-Man” film are also reportedly in development but don’t have release dates. Another “Thor” film is also rumored to be in development.
Several movie release dates were changed at the beginning of the WGA strike and could potentially be changed again as the SAG-AFTRA strike continues.
As for Disney+ television series, “What If…?” season 2 is set to air later this year, and “Echo” is scheduled to premiere in early 2024, followed by “Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.” “Ironheart” and “Daredevil: Born Again” are also coming soon — with filming of the latter paused due to the strikes.
The future of the ongoing Multiverse Saga is also in question given Jonathan Majors’ arrest and ongoing trial for alleged assault. Majors portrays Kang the Conquerer, the main villain of the Multiverse Saga, and his variants. Majors was dropped by his management company and PR firm, as well as other campaigns and projects, but Marvel and Disney have yet to announce any decisions about his role in the MCU. He appears in “Loki” season 2, which had completed filming before his arrest.
