ABC’s “Good Morning America” will be moving from its Times Square studio to Hudson Square in 2025, as part of a larger move by The Walt Disney Company, Variety reports.

All of Disney’s New York properties, including “Good Morning America” and “Live with Kelly and Mark,” will move to a downtown New York building in the Hudson Square neighborhood.

“‘Good Morning America’ is defined by the strength of our team in front of and behind the camera, quality of our reporting, and the long, trusted relationship with our viewers,” ABC News said in a statement. “Moving all ABC News teams to our new state-of-the-art building was a strategic decision that will allow for more collaboration and innovation.”

Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Michael Strahan, Laura Spencer, and Ginger Zee are the current anchors and hosts of “Good Morning America,” a.k.a. “GMA.”

“GMA” and NBC’s “Today” battle for morning viewers, with “GMA” beating “Today” for several years now. The Times Square location, Variety points out, helped bolster “GMA” as they adopted the “Today” model of anchors talking to people outside. “CBS Mornings” moved to Times Square in 2021, too.

A source familiar with the show told Variety that “GMA” producers will continue to send hosts out to various parts of New York City and other U.S.A. cities.

In a July interview with MSNBC, Disney CEO Bob Iger agreed with David Faber that ABC “may not be core” to The Walt Disney Company, and said that they have to be “open-minded” to potentially selling their TV assets — a comment which basically put them on the market. Byron Allen, CEO of Entertainment Studios, has expressed a strong desire to purchase stations from Disney, even making a $10 billion bid. Disney’s commitment to moving the ABC properties in 2025 may mean they are planning to hang onto the network more long-term than Iger had indicated, but no decision regarding a potential sale has been made.
