A new collection that puts Mickey & Friends into Pirates of the Caribbean has made landfall at Disneyland Resort. A tumbler and ear headband already arrived, but we found new apparel and a purse at Pieces of Eight in Disneyland.
Youth Tee – $26.99
This short-sleeved tee is red with an image of Mickey and Minnie on the chest.
Minnie is turning the wheel of a ship, beneath a jolly roger, while Mickey brandishes a scimitar. The ocean is behind them.
“Pirates of the Caribbean” is printed in a circle around a pirate skull and crossed swords on the back.
Youth Long-Sleeved Shirt – $31.99
The same pirate skull and crossed swords is on the chest of this white sweatshirt.
On the back is Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, and Pluto in pirate gear. Behind them, a black kraken looms.
“Pirates of the Caribbean” is below the image.
On the right sleeve are a ring of keys, a treasure chest, a hook, and a jolly roger flag.
Socks – $12.99
These socks have a blue print on one side and a red print on the other side. They have black toes and ankles.
On the blue side is Donald and Mickey, both waving swords.
On the red side are white skulls.
Headband – $14.99
The headband is a cream color with a knotted bow on top.
The exterior fabric is patterned with pirate treasure and other iconography, along with the Pirates of the Caribbean logo, and “Yo ho a pirate’s life for me.”
A gold chain runs around the headband.
Purse – $34.99
The top half of this purse is black, while the bottom half is sparkling gold. The small front pocket resembles a treasure chest with a buckle on the front.
Mickey and Minnie, in their pirate outfits, are on the front, above the treasure chest pocket.
There are rings on the sides and back to attach the included strap.
The strap can turn the bag into a crossbody purse or a backpack.
The interior lining is the same fabric as the headband.
Bandanna – $11.99
The bandanna is also made of the same fabric.
Other images in this pattern are a lute, drum, music notes, Mickey, and Minnie.
It has a red border.
Pirates of the Caribbean
Walt Disney originally conceived of the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction as a walkthrough wax museum. The idea evolved to become a boat ride and it opened in Disneyland in March 1967, just a few months after Walt’s death.
The original attraction has 630,000 gallons of water, 53 animal audio-animatronics, and 75 human audio-animatronics. Blue Bayou Restaurant overlooks the beginning of the ride.
Pirates of the Caribbean wasn’t an opening-day attraction at Magic Kingdom because the Walt Disney World Resort was so close to the real Caribbean that the company thought it wouldn’t be of interest to Floridian guests. They were proven wrong, however, and opened the second Pirates of the Caribbean in Magic Kingdom in 1973.
Versions of the ride have gone on to open in Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Shanghai Disneyland.
The ride also spawned the hugely successful “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise, which began in 2003 with “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.” There have been five films so far, with more planned.
