Construction has begun on the 2023 gingerbread house at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. The gingerbread house has been a tradition at the resort since 1999.
Gingerbread House Construction
Every year, the gingerbread house at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort resembles a Victorian-style house and is located in the main lobby of the resort.
The frame of the house is up and we saw several culinary Cast Members preparing gingerbread pieces to be placed on the frame.
Guests will be able to purchase gingerbread treats and other sweets from the gingerbread house when it opens in November.
At the end of the season, the gingerbread house frames are cleaned off by bees.
In addition to the basic gingerbread shingles, the house is always decorated with icing, figures, and more. Last year’s gingerbread house had 50th anniversary touches.
The gingerbread house also often features hidden Mickeys — usually one per year the house has existed.
Cast Members were beginning to install gingerbread shingles on this side of the house, above the window.
Soon, there was a row of shingles over the window.
Other detail pieces were waiting for installation.
The exact opening date and times of the gingerbread house have not been announced, but it usually opens in the first week or two of November.
Cast were securing the gingerbread shingles with icing.
Cast Members will sell treats from inside the house, which isn’t life-size, but is taller than a person.
In addition to roof shingles, Cast were installing siding on the walls.
A crew member was working on the opening in the house’s roof, below the chimney.
The floor of the Grand Floridian lobby is protected by sheathing.
Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will have a gingerbread display this year, as will Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s BoardWalk Resort, and Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
The Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort lobby will be remodeled next year. The project was delayed and then officially pushed to 2024 so as not to interfere with the gingerbread house display.
