There are only 11 days left until Space Mountain is scheduled to reopen at Disneyland Park, and we visited Tomorrowland to check out the final stages of its refurbishment.

While visiting the park on Thursday, October 12, we saw that the scrim around Space Mountain had come down, but more scaffolding had been added. You can see the scrim in our previous update here.

You can see where the scrim was previously attached along the metal pipes here.

The scrim was also on the roof over the entrance to the attraction, though it was also removed.

No reason was shared for the refurbishment when it was originally announced in August. The ride went down for this maintenance period on September 18.

On October 13, we visited Disneyland Park again to check up on Space Mountain’s progress.

Since the previous day’s update, blue scrim was added to the roof above the ride’s entrance. This color blends in far better than the previous tan color.

We also saw that blue scrim was added around the guest-facing portion of the roof over the ride’s exit. A small triangle of tan scrim peeks up over the blue construction walls on the left.

Space Mountain is scheduled to reopen to guests on October 26, 2023.

The original version of Space Mountain opened in 1975 at Magic Kingdom. It proved so popular, Disney constructed other versions at Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland. Shanghai Disney is the only Disney Resort with no Space Mountain, although they have the original TRON Lightcycle Run.

Each version of the ride is a little different, but they all take guests on a high-speed adventure through the iconic pyramid-like building.

The Parisian version of the ride was originally called De la Terre à la Lune, and was inspired by “From the Earth to the Moon” by Jules Verne.

At both Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland, the “Star Wars” Hyperspace Mountain overlay was originally supposed to be temporary but has become permanent.

Tokyo Disneyland broke ground on its completely new version of the ride in May 2023, and is expected to open the new version of the ride in 2027. You can check out our latest construction update here.
