Passion Fruit IceOform – $5.79
ice cream mochi with citrus, shortbread crunch, and purple ube foam
Visually, this looks like it belongs near Figment as it’s almost his exact shade of purple. But it is a welcome addition to Energy Bytes.
The purple ube foam that makes up the majority of the dish is light, airy, and a little on the watery side. It has a mild sweetness to it.
In our bowl, we got two mochi balls, which had a soft exterior with an elastic and rubbery shell. They were easy to bite into, but the ice cream inside was shockingly cold. It had a kick of citrus taste and was yellow-ish on the inside. There was only a hint of passion fruit alongside the citrus.
The shortbread crunch is just that — a handful of small crumble pieces that offer a hard crunch and bite when combined with the ice cream. It provides the solid texture that the desert needs to make it feel more complete.
If you are looking for a more unique ice cream treat for kids or just don’t want to stand in line at the Plaza Ice Cream Plaza, this is a solid option. It’s sweet and not a huge portion, but could still be shared if you’re overwhelmed by the sweetness.
If you aren’t a fan of the mochi texture or citrus flavors, then this isn’t for you. But it’s an overall winner.
