REVIEW, VIDEO: Make Board Game Night Spooky With Scream The Game by Funko

We created our very own horror movie as we played Scream The Game by Funko Games. Check out our gameplay video below with our review of this new cooperative game.

Scream The Game: How to Play

This race-against-the clock collaborative game takes about 20 minutes to play. The party game is designed for three to eight players. Each player works to complete their scene cards, sharing resources and dodging attacks from Ghostface to try to make it to the end of their film.

One person will download the game’s app onto their phone, program in a nickname for all the players, and then begin. If the players are able to complete their objectives by discarding certain cards before they run out of time or are caught and killed by Ghostface, the players all win; if anyone dies, or if the time runs out, the players lose. Gameplay Video of Scream The Game

We had the opportunity to play and review Scream The Game. Check out our video below of the fast-pased, heart-pounding game in action.

Review of Scream The Game

We felt the panic rising in us as we played this game. The fast-paced nature of the game made us feel stress and heart-pounding fear every time the phone rang. The game’s mechanics of the phone ringing, cards getting swapped quickly, and the suspenseful cooperative nature made us lose track of time.

We felt like we were in the movie, even if the game is very simple. We did wish that there was a whodunit element to the game, since that is such an integral part of the film franchise. The game’s focus is on saving all the players, but the movie series’s element of distrust of the other people led to some of the film’s suspense.

Playability: We felt like this game’s playability was very high, and we would be excited to play this game again. We also enjoyed that the short video (linked above as well as within our review and gameplay video) taught us everything we needed to know about how to play. The cooperative element is not unique to this game, but it does fit nicely with the theme and the gameplay mechanics. One of our reviewers thought the frantic feel made it more challenging to keep up with what was going on, but overall we rated this game 5/5.

Design: This game has fun graphics and an easy to understand mechanics. We would have liked to interact with some of the game pieces more. The game’s art is simple and easy to recognize, but we wish there was more complexity to the art and gameplay. The best feature of the game is the companion app with Ghostface’s phone calls. Overall, we rated the design 3/5.

Difficulty: This game is easy to pick up and play, and the game’s challenge level can be modified to meet your player’s needs. We liked that the language could be modified as well for folks looking for tamer language and content phone calls from Ghostface.

Overall, all four of our reviewers would recommend this game. If you’d like to pick up your own copy, you can host your own scary movie game party currently for just $17.99 from Amazon.
