Additional scaffolding and scrim have been installed outside the Columbia Harbour House at Magic Kingdom as the quick-service restaurant’s exterior refurbishment continues. Renovation work began in mid-September when coverings were added to the side of the restaurant facing the Peter Pan’s Flight building. Construction walls went up in early October, and much of the building was surrounded by walls, scaffolding, and scrim by the end of the month. The restaurant remains open during refurbishment.
More Scaffolding, Scrim Installed at Columbia Harbour House
The new construction materials have been added since our last update in late October. The recently installed scaffolding wraps around the building and over an exit tunnel left between temporary work walls; seen above is a photo from November 16.
Seen above is a photo from November 25. Little visible progress has been made, but that’s not to say work is not ongoing.
The same can be said for the entire renovation, as walls, scaffolding, and scrim obstruct most of our view. It’s anticipated that the work primarily consists of façade refurbishment and touchups; some scrims were removed in October, and no significant alterations were noticeable.
While the Columbia Harbour House is a Liberty Square staple, the building can also be seen from the Fantasyland section of Magic Kingdom. The exterior of that side of the restaurant contains more fantastical and European-esque theming when compared to the colonial America-inspired façade of the Liberty Square portion; our previous refurbishment updates primarily covered work on the Fantasyland side of the structure.
Work on this portion of the building is ongoing but, again, indiscernible. The walls, scaffolding, and scrim have remained in place since our last update, and thus, we haven’t noticed any changes. A menu board is still present on the temporary wall near the Fantasyland entrance to the restaurant.
The restaurant opens at 11:00 a.m. most days. Its closing time varies depending on the day; according to the schedule listed on the official Walt Disney World website, the venue appears set to adopt a consistent 11:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. schedule starting on December 23.
The Columbia Harbour House’s New England-inspired fare includes a Lobster Roll, New England Shrimp Boil, Grilled Shrimp Skewer, Grilled Salmon, Sea Captain’s Fish Sandwich, Mixed Greens Salad, Chicken Strips, and Plant-based Crab Cake Sandwich. In addition to the standard French fries, guests can get clam chowder, green beans, hushpuppies, or rice as sides.
If you visit the restaurant during an offering of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, you’ll be greeted with a complimentary chocolate chip cookie and hot cocoa.
