At Wednesday’s meeting, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a 30 percent increase in building fees for District taxpayers, including Walt Disney World Resort.
District board Approves Building Fee Increase for Disney
Collected building fees were about $3.2 million in fiscal year 2023. The 30 percent on average increase will amount to $1.8 million, for a $5 million total in FY2024.
The District’s Chief Technical Inspector Kenny Locke said the fee percentage increase is consistent with the last increase in 2016 and was a “direct result” of a request from the Board of Supervisors, who asked the department to cover more expenses. According to Locke, the department will not operate at a surplus as a result of the fee increase.
Building fees are accrued from permits for construction, fire alarms, electrical systems, elevators, etc. as well as plan reviews, revisions, and more. No additional fee categories were added.
