REVIEW: Santa Mickey Cupcake, Frozen Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa Provide Holiday Cheer at Rosie’s All-American Café at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

The Santa Mickey Cupcake and Frozen Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa have presumably made the nice list, as they’ve returned to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for this year’s holiday season.

The Santa Mickey Cupcake is available at Rosie’s All-American Café, located on Sunset Boulevard, while the Frozen Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa is available at several locations throughout the park (including Rosie’s).

Chocolate Cake filled with Mocha Fudge and topped with Red Almond Buttercream, White Chocolate, and Dark Chocolate Mickey Ears

Though the Mickey Santa Cupcake takes a nice photograph, it’s a mixed bag in terms of quality. The buttercream aesthetically piped atop the cupcake is as bountiful as it is rich, and we think it’s the best part of this dessert.

It’s the cake itself that’s leaving a bit to be desired. It’s dry and has an unexpected chemical-like aftertaste. The mocha fudge at the center of the treat is tasty and effectively pairs with the buttercream, but the two, unfortunately, don’t provide enough moisture to overcome the dry cake. The Mickey ears are standard dark chocolate and don’t tip the scale in either direction.

Frozen Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa – $5.99

Topped with Mini Marshmallow and Chocolate Sauce (also available with Cherry Bourbon – $13.50)

This oxymoronic drink is delightful. It’s rich in chocolate flavor, and you get a lot of the beverage; there’s certainly enough here to share.

The drizzle adds another layer of chocolate flavor to the frozen hot chocolate. It’s a very chocolate-forward treat, but we’re not complaining. The marshmallows don’t really provide much in terms of flavor; we understand why they’re here aesthetically speaking, but we could do without them.

This drink is also available with a shot of cherry bourbon, which, in our opinion, overpowers the frozen hot chocolate. The flavors aren’t incohesive, but they conflict enough that you’ll probably be left wishing you had gone with the non-alcoholic version.
