‘Wish’ Pre-Show Coming to ‘World of Color – Season of Light’ at Disney California Adventure on November 17

A “Wish” pre-show will be added to showings of “World of Color – Season of Light” at Disney California Adventure starting tonight, November 17. Disney Parks announced the addition on its official Instagram account Friday afternoon.

Disney shared a brief preview of the pre-show along with its announcement.

The preview showcases several water and lighting effects as scenes from the film are projected onto a mist screen. Asha, the film’s protagonist, and Star, a supporting character, are seen in the projections; Disney Parks commented “See Asha and Star ahead of World of Color – Season of Light at Disney California Adventure Park starting Nov. 17” on their post, seemingly indicating that these are the only two characters from the movie that will be seen.

An official name for the pre-show has not been announced, nor has the song/music that will play alongside the special tag. However, “This Wish,” performed by Ariana DeBose, is played over the Instagram clip; Disney has positioned this song as one of the movie’s primary tracks, releasing it in full in mid-October.

“Wish,” the newest Walt Disney Animation Studios feature, will be released at domestic theaters on November 22.

“World of Color – Season of Light” is the holiday version of the “World of Color” nighttime show at Disney California Adventure. It returned on November 10 as 2023 holiday celebrations commenced around Disneyland Resort. The festive display is performed twice nightly at 9 p.m. and 10:15 p.m.; “World of Color – Season of Light” will run through January 7, 2024.

The original “World of Color” debuted at Disney California Adventure in 2010, and several iterations have since been performed. The show will be closed for refurbishment after the holiday season before returning in February 2024 with “World of Color – ONE,” which initially premiered in January of 2023.

Pre-shows and special tags similar to the recently announced “Wish” addition have been included in showings of “World of Color” in the past. An “Elemental” pre-show played alongside performances of “World of Color – ONE” earlier this year.

“Wish” is an animated musical that uses a mix of traditional and 3D animation. The film follows Asha (Debose), a sharp-witted idealist who makes a wish upon a star that changes the fate of her entire kingdom. The movie also stars Chris Pine as King Magnifico and Alan Tudyk as Valentino, a talking goat.

The film is directed by Chris Buck (“Frozen,” “Frozen II”) and Fawn Veerasunthorn (“Raya and the Last Dragon”) from a script penned by Buck, Allison Moore (“Night Sky”), and Walt Disney Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer Jennifer Lee (who also worked on both “Frozen” films). According to its directors, “Wish” will feature several legacy nods to films from the Walt Disney Animation Studios library.

Promotion for the new film has been prevalent throughout the past several weeks. In mid-October, Disney announced intentions to release a song from the film each Wednesday until its release“This Wish,” “This Is The Thanks I Get?!,” “Welcome to Rosas,” “I’m A Star,” and “Knowing What I Know Now” are the tracks that have been previewed thus far.

A “Wish”-themed light show will debut on the exterior of Spaceship Earth at EPCOT on November 22 to coincide with the film’s release, and speaking of spherical structures, a “Wish”-inspired advertisement recently played at the Las Vegas Sphere.

Asha will make her way to Disneyland Park as a meet-and-greet character on November 22. She will also debut at Disneyland Paris on November 29.
