The 2024 Lunar New Year Celebration has begun at Disney California Adventure, and with it returns Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession! As this year is the Year of the Dragon, Mushu takes a starring role in the parade.

Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession

Two performers carry the Lunar New Year banner.

Throughout the procession, a narrator describes the connection between Mulan, each passing unit of performers, and the Lunar New Year. The banner carriers that begin the procession received new costumes this year, with purple and black outfits instead of yellow and blue.

Next, a trio of dancers dressed to resemble moonflowers swirl and twirl by.

A group of dragon dancers carry a large dragon puppet.

Behind them is a team of dragon dancers, who carry a large blue and gold dragon puppet above their heads.

More dancers walk along the procession path for Lunar New Year.

Then, a team of dancers dressed in shades of blue and pink perform with rainbow-colored scarves. Normally, following this unit are parade trikes, which have been cut from the procession this year.

Mulan's Lunar New Year Procession also includes a group of martial arts performers.

Another pair of moonflower dancers lead the float.

A float carrying Mulan and Mushu finally makes its entrance.

Mulan and Mushu are the stars of the show with the Lunar New Year float. Last year, a trio of drummers stood on the center platform; those performers have been cut, with Mushu taking their place.

Filling in for Mushu’s former spot is a statue of Cri-kee, the cricket character from the animated film.

Mushu waves hi to the crowd as the float passes.

Mushu couldn’t help but give us a wave as the float passed by.

Chip stands proudly on the back of the parade float.

Last year’s float saw Goofy in this spot, who has since been replaced with Chip. Dale follows on the ground not far behind.

Flag twirlers lead a group of fan dancers.

Following the float are the flag twirlers we mentioned before.

The fan dancers swirl along the procession route.

Behind them are dancers clad in pink and blue gowns, twirling with pink and white fans.

Even more moonflower dancers arrive to close out the performance.

Parasol dancers bring Mulan's Lunar New Year Procession to a close.

The final unit is a group of dancers with parasols, ready to meet the matchmaker.
