Sea Pines Resort spokesperson Karen Moraghan confirmed to The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette that John Munro, 64, was placed on administrative leave “amid review of this personnel matter.”

Munro was charged with a misdemeanor battery and pleaded not guilty after an incident on November 19, 2023, at Citricos in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

Citricos has a dress code stating, “Guests are expected to dress accordingly in attire that respects the restaurant’s sophisticated and upscale aesthetic. Clothing should be clean, neat, and in good condition. Please no swimwear.”

Munro showed up to his reservation wearing swim shorts and a T-shirt. A Cast Member told him he would not be able to sit with his family, who were dressed appropriately. Munro said that was no problem and that he wanted to wait with his family. But when their table was ready, he tried to join them.

One member of Munro’s family told the Cast Member, “Please don’t allow him to sit with us. He is really drunk, underdressed. It’s my birthday and I’m embarrassed!”

The Cast Member then told Munro he wasn’t allowed in the restaurant. Munro slapped the 19-year-old Cast Member three times on her forehead as she “stood in shock while she held onto the restaurant menus with both hands.”

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office was called and arrested Munro. The arrest report agreed that he appeared intoxicated and also noted he was “constantly repeating that he was going to sue Disney.”

Munro was released on a $1,000 bond the next morning. His attorneys have not responded to requests for comment.
