Weathers played Apollo Creed in the first four “Rocky” films and Colonel Al Dillon in “Predator.” His other famous roles include Detective Adam Beaudreaux in “Street Justice” and Derick “Chubbs” Peterson in “Happy Gilmore” and “Little Nicky.” He portrayed a fictionalized version of himself in “Arrested Development.”

In 2021, Weathers was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his recurring role as Greef Karga in “The Mandalorian.” He appeared as Karga, a loyal friend to the titular Mandalorian and the one who most often calls him “Mando,” in nine episodes of the show — four in the first season, one in the second season, and four in the third season.

In addition to his role on “The Mandalorian,” he also directed two episodes of the show: “Chapter 12: The Siege” and “Chapter 20: The Foundling.”

Also for Disney, Weathers voiced Combat Carl in “Toy Story of Terror” and “Toy Story 4.” He voiced Omnitraxus Prime in “Star vs. the Forces of Evil.”

Before his acting career, Weathers played football, beginning at San Diego State University. He signed with the Oakland Raiders and played as a linebacker for two seasons in the NFL.

“The Mandalorian” star Pedro Pascal shared a photo of a young Weathers on Instagram and wrote simply, “words fail,” with a breaking heart emoji and tagged Weathers’ name.

Weathers is survived by two sons with his ex-wife Mary Ann.
