Disney has shared all the details guests need to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year at Shanghai Disney Resort and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. This year, China celebrates the Year of the Dragon.

Chinese New Year at Shanghai Disney Resort

Shanghai Disney Resort is celebrating the Chinese New Year through February 24. The park is decorated with hanging lanterns and a “Dragon’s Gate” featuring Chip ‘n’ Dale as a pair of koi fish leaping over the gate, representing better prospects for the New Year.

Chip and Dale are also featured on banners that line Mickey Avenue in Shanghai Disneyland. Other characters are also featured in Chinese New Year apparel and costumes.

In the Gardens of Imagination, Mickey ear arches and lanterns form a backdrop for photos. The Garden of the Twelve Friends has also received a dragon-themed makeover.

Special food items available at Shanghai Disney Resort include the Sweet Potato Crepe served with vanilla ice cream at CookieAnn Bakery Café.

At Il Paperino is the Disney LinaBell Waffle with Hawthorn & Vanilla Flavored Ice Cream. LinaBell is a Duffy & Friends character first introduced at Shanghai Disney Resort in 2021. She’s an inquisitive pink fox.

Mushu is a prominent figure for the Year of the Dragon. He’s pictured on the side of this red and gold drum-shaped popcorn bucket.

At Donald’s Dine ‘n Delights, guests can enjoy limited-edition milkshakes decorated with lanterns and streamers.

Mickey, Minnie, and their friends are all sporting new outfits featuring dragon scales and symbols of good fortune. Mickey and Minnie are in red shirts, while Donald and Daisy match in purple. Chip ‘n’ Dale wear blue and red. Goofy is in an orange and green outfit. Mickey’s outfit specifically can be found in the domestic Disney Parks as a plush.

The Spring Festival Drum Ceremony is performed daily in the Gardens of Imagination. Mulan and Mushu join the ceremony for the first time this year.

Mushu will also appear for an exclusive welcome moment on the stage of the Enchanted Storybook Castle. He will also appear on Mickey Avenue, as will Goofy dressed as the God of Fortune.

From February 9 to 24 there will be a special fireworks display in the evening. During the show, fireworks will write out the Chinese character for “dragon.”

Chinese New Year at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort

Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is celebrating Chinese New Year through February 25. Decorations include Fai Chun, lanterns, gold ingots, and lucky coins. In the center of Town Square is a Mickey-shaped red lantern featuring an image of Sisu the dragon from “Raya and the Last Dragon.”

There is plenty of food to enjoy including the Chinese New Year set menu at Main Street Corner Cafe Hosted by Coca-Cola. There’s also the Dragon Emperor’s Spring Eight Treasure Cuisine Plate available at Disney Explorers Lodge.

Mickey’s Year of the Dragon Celebration” is a new castle stage show. It features Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, Daisy, and Goofy (dressed as the God of Fortune) alongside singers and dancers performing an original Chinese New Year song.
