The new Groot topiary has been installed at EPCOT for the 2024 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival, which officially begins on February 28.
Groot Topiary
Groot is in a flowerbed near Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in World Discovery. He’s depicted in his young form, with spacey plants around him, and holds up a large vine-covered wooden cassette tape.
The tape reads “Green-House Mix Vol. 1,” a play on “Awesome Mix Vol. 1,” the name of Peter Quill’s cassette tape mix in the first “Guardians of the Galaxy” film.
The topiary plays a 90-second clip from one of the classic songs on the “Guardians of the Galaxy” soundtracks every 20 minutes. We first heard “Come and Get Your Love,” “Escape (The Piña Colada Song),” and “I Want You Back” from “Awesome Mix Vol. 1” and later “Mr. Blue Sky” from “Awesome Mix Vol. 2.” Hear a clip in our video below.
At the end of each song clip, there is a rewinding sound effect
Small blue and yellow insects are in the flowerbed around Groot. These space bees are from the “I Am Groot” short “Groot Takes a Bath,” available to stream on Disney+. Groot uses one of the insect’s juices in his mud bath. In the screenshot below, the bee is floating above Groot as he marvels at his bath.
Other new topiaries this year will be inspired by “Wish” and “Coco.” “Beauty and the Beast,” Kermit and Miss Piggy, “Encanto,” Figment, “Lady & the Tramp,” and “Frozen” topiaries are among those that have been installed so far. Check out the full list of 2024 topiaries and global gardens.
