The bioluminescent walkways that light up Pandora — The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom are getting a fresh coat of paint.
Bioluminescent Walkways Getting a Refresh in Pandora
The UV-reactant paint is being reapplied on several of the walkways around Pandora. This refresh is not uncommon, as the paint does not fair well in the Florida sun, and tends to fade rather quickly. The walkways were refreshed back in 2021.
The pavement is being repainted in sections. On a recent visit to the land, we saw two different areas outside of the Nav’vi River Journey entrance blocked off so that work could be done and the paint could dry.
The paint is being refreshed in all of the nooks and crannies of the pavement, where, as you can see in the above image, much of it is almost completely faded. While the added color looks nice during the day, it’s at nighttime that it really makes an impact.
The paint glows in the dark, giving the appearance of bioluminescence, much like what can be found while riding Na’vi River Journey.
The timing of this refresh bodes well, as Disney’s Animal Kingdom has recently been given extended hours, with the park open an hour or two later than its typical 6 p.m. closing time. Most recently, it was announced that the park will stay open until 7 p.m. on February 11 and 12, and will stay open until 8 p.m. on February 16 and 17. Hopefully, guests will be able to enjoy the bioluminescent walkways in all their glory by that time.
