New Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind merchandise is available at EPCOT that parodies the 1985 comic book “Mickey and Goofy Explore the Universe of Energy.”
The new items are available at Treasures of Xandar in EPCOT, the Cosmic Rewind gift shop. So far, we’ve found a T-shirt and magnet.
Rocket and Groot Explore the Wonders of Xandar T-Shirt – $34.99
The front of the shirt is white. Printed on the left breast is a logo featuring Spaceship Earth and Star-Lord’s first ship, the Milano. The same logo is featured on other new Cosmic Rewind merchandise.
The ship is orange with a blue circle representing the cockpit window. Rainbow stripes streak out from behind the ship over Spaceship Earth. The gray background is the seven-pointed shape of the Guardians of the Galaxy’s symbol.
A strip of red taping in the neckline reads “Guardians of the Galaxy” and has the pavilion’s logo. The pavilion is known as the Wonders of Xandar, an “Other-world Showcase” pavilion as part of a cultural exchange with the Nova Corps capital planet, Xandar.
The Wonders of Xandar pavilion replaced the Universe of Energy pavilion, which opened with EPCOT in 1982. The attraction became Ellen’s Energy Adventure in 1996 before permanently closing in 2017 to make way for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
On the back of the T-shirt is a rectangular poster-like design featuring cartoon versions of Groot and Rocket Raccoon outside the Wonders of Xandar pavilion. The text reads “Rocket and Groot Explore the Wonders of Xandar Presented by Nova Corps.” The current EPCOT logo and wordmark are in the top left corner.
The design is complete with the Nova Corps Star Blaster, the pavilion’s façade, and a Monorail in the background. It’s directly inspired by the cover of “Mickey and Goofy Explore the Universe of Energy,” seen below.
Groot and Rocket’s positioning even mirrors Goofy and Mickey. The comic, like the attraction, was presented by Exxon. It was originally available to purchase at Epcot Center.
Universe of Energy Parody Magnet – $12.99
The same “Rocket and Groot Explore the Wonders of Xandar” cover image is also available as a rectangular magnet. On the magnet, Groot and Rocket pop out from the background, which is slightly paler than them, for a three-dimensional appearance.
The alien lettering on the side of the packaging labels this as part of the “Broker’s Collection.” The Broker, a character from “Guardians of the Galaxy,” is the in-story proprietor of the Treasures of Xandar gift shop.
