Woman Sues Universal Orlando for ‘Traumatic Brain Injury’ After Riding Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit

A Florida woman has filed a lawsuit against Universal Orlando, claiming she sustained “traumatic brain injury” while riding the rollercoaster Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit.

Geriann Clem and her husband, Richard Clem, from the Broward County area, are suing the Universal Orlando Resort as a result of her experience riding the rollercoaster Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit.

Geriann Clem claims she rode the attraction on February 11, 2023. She claims that due to Universal Orlando’s negligence, she sustained “traumatic brain injury,” among other permanent damages that have left her without the capacity to earn money in the future. As a direct and proximate result of Defendant’s aforementioned negligence, Plaintiff, Geriann Irwin Clem, suffered severe and permanent personal injuries and damages including, but not limited to, a traumatic brain injury, pain and suffering, disability, physical impairment, mental anguish, inconvenience, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life in the past, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life in the future; medical, nursing, and rehabilitation expenses in the past, medical nursing, and rehabilitation expenses in the future, lost wages in the past, and the capacity to earn money in the future.

In the lawsuit, the Clems are asking for $50,000 for personal injuries and damages. They also demand a trial by jury. The full suit is available for the public to read.

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is a rollercoaster located in the New York area of Universal Studios Florida. Once guests strap in, they can pick from five songs (dropped down from the over 30 options once available) to listen to while on the ride. Universal Orlando describes the ride as:

Adrenaline pumping and music thumping, you’ll climb toward the sky at a 90-degree angle and tackle the first ferocious drop. Topping out at 65 mph, this rip-roaring ride is a blast from beginning to end.
