Production has begun on HBO’s new “Harry Potter” television series, with a new look at Dominic McLaughlin as the Boy Wizard, new casting announced, and a confirmed release year.
First Look at ‘Harry Potter’ in New Series as Production Begins
In the photo, released by HBO, McLaughlin wears Harry Potter’s Gryffindor school robes, the character’s iconic round glasses, and lightning bolt scar. The series has begun production at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K.
McLaughlin is joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The new Golden Trio was chosen from an auditioning pool of more than 30,000 actors.
New cast members for the series were also announced, including Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Olivander. Previously announced cast includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
In addition, HBO has confirmed that the show will debut in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max. It will be a decade-long, seven-season “faithful” adaptation of the “Harry Potter” series by J.K. Rowling
Francesca Gardiner serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer, with Mark Mylod as executive producer and director of multiple episodes. Rowling will also serve as executive producer.
