Jeff Bridges Returning as Kevin Flynn for ‘Tron: Ares’
Bridges said on the Film Comment podcast, “I’m heading off this Saturday to play a part in the third installment of the ‘Tron’ story. Jared Leto is the star of this third one. I’m really anxious to work with him; I’ve admired his work.”
Walt Disney Studios also shared a post about Bridges’ return on Instagram with the caption, “Jeff Bridges returns to the grid.”
Bridges portrayed Kevin Flynn in “Tron” and the sequel, “Tron: Legacy.”
“Tron: Ares” began filming in Vancouver in January. A month later, Disney shared the first image of Jared Leto in the film.
Leto portrays Ares, a sophisticated program that is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission. The cast also includes Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson.
Joachim Rønning, director of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” and “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” is directing “Tron: Ares.” Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne wrote the script. Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Leto, Emma Ludbrook, and Steven Lisberger are producing. Russell Allen is the executive producer.
The first “Tron” was released in 1982. The sequel, “Tron: Legacy,” was released in 2011.
“Tron: Ares” is scheduled for release in 2025.
