Scene-by-Scene Comparison of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom

We’re breaking down the differences between Splash Mountain and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure now that the latter has opened for previews at Magic Kingdom. Splash Mountain closed permanently in January 2023 and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will officially open on June 28.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure vs. Splash Mountain

Splash Mountain Refurbishment

Splash Mountain: Guests pass Br’er Frog, sitting in a hut. Br’er Frog began to tell the story of Br’er Rabbit. Guests splash down a small hill. They pass by dozens of ominous briars before arriving at a mill.

A water tower labeled "Tiana's Foods" stands amid lush vegetation, swamp-like trees, and a pond with blooming water lilies under a clear blue sky.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure: As “Down in New Orleans” plays, guests pass Tiana’s Foods crates. They see the Tiana’s Foods water tower above them on their right. They splash into the bayou, passing trees, flowers, and lilypads. As they approach the mill, a mural on the left features the ingredients of gumbo. A banner on the mill reads “A Celebration of Family and Friends of New Orleans at the Proud Home of Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen.”

Splash Mountain: After another small hill, guests pass various animal homes and props. A “Welcome” sign is stamped with a bear paw. A wagon advertises “Critter Elixir.” Laundry hangs on a wire. Signs point to Br’er Fox’s lair, Chick-A-Pin Falls, and The Laughin’ Place. Birdhouses hang from a twisted tree and guests can hear birdsong. They pass Br’er Bear’s home before arriving at Slippin’ Falls.

From We Call It Imagineering, sign reading "Tiana's Foods" with a subheading "Est. 1927" is displayed over a waterway, surrounded by greenery and rock formations. There's another sign that reads "Employee Owned.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure: Guests hear Tiana sing “Almost There” as they pass a sign pointing to various Tiana’s Foods locations, including the main office, break room, test kitchen, and children’s garden. The logs head in the direction of the bayou, passing under a Tiana’s Foods banner. On the left are plants like okra and celery, where Louis is stuck, looking for a band. On the right is Louisiana Gator Peppers. The twisted tree is wrapped in vines. On the left, guests get another view of the Tiana’s Foods water tower, this time from the back, displaying the quote by Tiana’s father, “Never, ever lose sight of what’s really important.” They pass a door with colorful bottles hanging outside and hear Mama Odie singing “Dig A Little Deeper.”

Splash Mountain: Guests pass under a beehive and enter a cavern, where frogs and fishing birds sing “How Do You Do?” They encounter Br’er Fox and Br’er Bear, who are plotting to set a trap for Br’er Rabbit. Br’er Rabbit stands outside his home, which he has boarded up with a sign reading “Gone for good.” He prepares to go on an adventure.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure: Guests arrive in a dark scene illuminated by fireflies in the plants around them. They see a Louis animatronic, who praises a zydeco band made up of various critters. The critters perform a version of “Gonna Take You There.” A Tiana animatronic agrees the band is the “bee’s knees” and invites them to her party.

Splash Mountain: A porcupine continues singing about Br’er Rabbit’s search for adventure. Two young rabbits tell guests to look in the distance, where projected silhouettes show Br’er Rabbit being chased by Br’er Fox and Br’er Bear. Guests then see Br’er Bear caught in his own snare trap, with Br’er Fox admonishing him. Br’er Rabbit hops by and says he’s looking for his “laughin’ place.”

Three animatronic bears are playing instruments in a forest setting. A fox and bear on the left plays a drum, the bear in the middle plays a guitar, and the bear on the right plays a horn.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure: Guests follow fireflies, who appear via screens and lights, through the bayou. “Gonna Take You There” shifts genres as Tiana and Louis find a rara band consisting of bears, bobcats, and a fox.

Splash Mountain: Audio-animatronic critters, including a roadrunner, wonder about Br’er Rabbit’s laughin’ place. They sing “Everybody’s Got a Laughing Place” as guests pass by more animal homes. Br’er Rabbit tricks Br’er Bear again and the latter finds himself stuck in a tree. Br’er Rabbit looks down from a hole above, laughing. Drawn in chalk on the tree is an arrow and “To the laughin’ place.” Guests follow the arrow down another hill.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure: Fireflies dance to the music of the bayou. Guests pass by a rundown hut and then see Tiana again. She hopes the two bands they’ve already met come to the party but says they need to keep searching. Louis, meanwhile, has found himself stuck in the ground. Mama Odie looks down at guests from a screen surrounded by her lantern bottles. She tells guests it’s “time to think big, and time to get tiny.” Her voice echoes as golden light swirls around. Guests are sent careening down a hill with purple and yellow light shining on them, shrinking them down to the size of a frog.

Splash Mountain: Guests arrive in a cavern full of bees and beehives. They catch up to Br’er Bear, who has a beehive on his head and is rolling around in distress. Br’er Rabbit laughs but doesn’t see Br’er Fox with a beehive behind him. Guests splash down another small hill, where frogs and turtles continue gleefully singing “Everybody’s Got a Laughing Place.”

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure: Now the size of frogs, guests are surrounded by giant glowing mushrooms and bottle lanterns. They find the first frog of a band playing an Afro-Cuban version of “Dig A Little Deeper.” Down a short hill are more large frogs. Tiana and Louis appear as giants via a screen, bobbing their heads along with the music. Fireflies, now visible in full detail, dance among the plants and bottles.

Splash Mountain: Guests venture deeper into the cavern, where signs read “Watch Out” and “Enter at Your Own Risk.” They see Br’er Fox holding Br’er Rabbit, trapped in a sticky beehive. The music turns dark as Br’er Fox threatens Br’er Rabbit and the rabbit begs to be let go. Guests turn towards the final lift hill. Two vultures perched on a branch above mock guests and Br’er Rabbit. Br’er Rabbit uses reverse psychology to encourage Br’er Fox fling him into the briar patch below instead of skinning him or roasting him.

A view from inside a cave with colorful bottles hanging from the ceiling. Flowers and greenery decorate the cave entrance, and an "EXIT" sign is visible. Light shines brightly from the outside.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure: As guests approach the lift hill, Mama Odie appears again to make guests full-size again. More lights shine on guests as they go up the hill. Then they see an animatronic Mama Odie in a crow’s nest on their left. She promises to get them to Tiana’s party “in no time, guaranteed.”

Splash Mountain: A banner reads “Welcome Home Br’er Rabbit.” All of the animals celebrate Br’er Rabbit’s decision to stay, singing “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah.” A trio of gators sit on a dock but most of the animals are on a riverboat, playing instruments and dancing.

A colorful, animated scene depicts a musical performance with animal characters playing instruments on a balcony and stage, reminiscent of Tiana's Bayou Adventure. The backdrop shows a decorated building with vibrant lighting.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure: A banner reads “Welcome to all who come to this happy place.” A sign on the right welcomes guests to Fleur de Bayou, Tiana and Naveen’s home. Inside, Lottie and Eudora are on a balcony to the left. Screen windows of a building on the right show more guests dancing. Tiana, Naveen, Louis, and all the musical animals are on a brick patio in front of a decorated house, singing the new original song “Special Spice.”
