Today at the Hall H panel for Marvel Studios at San Diego Comic Con, it was confirmed that Giancarlo Esposito will be playing Sidewinder, leader of the Serpent Society, in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World movie.
Giancarlo Esposito as Sidewinder
The fourth Captain America feature film in the MCU stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Harrison Ford as Thaddeus Ross/Red Hulk, and Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/Falcon. Liv Tyler is returning as Betty Ross for the first time in fifteen years after originally starring in “The Incredible Hulk.” Giancarlo Esposito was added during last-minute reshoots. Filming had originally wrapped in June 2023, but reshoots were done in May and April 2024 to include Esposito.
Giancarlo Esposito has also been in the headlines lately after confirming his interest in returning to Star Wars. He’s open to reprising his role as Moff Gideon for “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” despite his character’s apparent death in season 3 of “The Mandalorian.”
Sidewinder, also known as Seth Voelker, is a Marvel villain who (in the comics, at least) can travel through dimensions and teleport. He’s the leader of the snake-themed villain group, the Serpent Society, though he later joins the allegedly reformed Thunderbolts. Esposito has not been confirmed to join the Thunderbolts film at this time.
“Captain America: Brave New World” is scheduled for a theatrical release on February 14, 2025.
