The former Tortuga Tavern at Magic Kingdom is now a temporary pop-up gift shop, renamed “Tortuga Treasures.”
Tortuga Treasures
The new area has been transformed into a gift shop specializing in pirate-themed merchandise. Tortuga Tavern closed indefinitely on June 7, 2024.
Much of the old Tortuga Tavern theming remains but the menu board is covered up with a pirate map graphic. Guests check out at the cash registers where they would previously pay for their quick service meals.
Most of these items were originally available at Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar, the gift shop located at the exit of Pirates of the Caribbean.
The latter closed for refurbishment today, July 23, with its merchandise moving over to Tortuga Treasures for now.
Seating has been added outside as well, though there isn’t much shade here.
The interior seating at Tortuga Treasures is still present, so guests can take a seat to enjoy their food or take a load off during their Magic Kingdom day.
Merchandise carts under the breezeway have been removed.
Over at Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar, the shop is closed for refurbishment, with black scrim covering sections of what were once merchandise displays.
Nearly all of the cash registers have been removed from their stations.
Some still remain, however, as you can see in the photo above.
Construction walls surround the fountain that sits in the middle of the bazaar.
This wall display previously held ear headbands.
The public phones that were previously located here have also been completely removed.
At this time, the entrance to the former Pirates League transformation experience is roped off. The offering closed in 2020 with the rest of the park due to COVID-19 and never reopened.
The portraits that hung along the wall here have also been taken down.
However, if you still want collectible medallions or pressed pennies, the machines are still available.
You can still easily exit the ride and access the bathrooms.
At Destination D23 in 2023, Disney announced the new arrival of a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed lounge at the Magic Kingdom. The new offering will extend the story of the attraction, and see the return of Peg-Leg Pete, the animatronic barker bird that greeted guests at the entrance of Pirates of the Caribbean from 1973 to 2006.
There has been no official announcement regarding the exact location of this new lounge, but it is likely to be situated in this area. Stay tuned for more updates as construction eventually begins and refurbishment in this area progresses.
