Disney Reveals First Suspended Coaster Inspired by ‘Monsters Inc.’ Doors Scene

The new “Monsters, Inc.” land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will have a coaster inspired by the first film’s famous doors sequence.

Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster

Animated characters Sulley and Mike from Monsters, Inc. are escaping through a door on a roller-coaster-like track, akin to a suspended coaster, while riders in yellow seats watch the scene. A child is held by Sulley.

The “Monsters, Inc.” land will be set after the events of Pixar’s 2001 film. Humans are invited to visit Monstropolis and tour the laugh factor, where they will zoom through the building via a door.

Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro said at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, “The first time I saw ‘Monsters, Inc.’, all I wanted to do was ride on one of those doors like Mike and Sulley. You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

Disney revealed the ride’s layout with an Imagineering model.

A “Monsters, Inc.” ride already exists at Disneyland: Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!
