Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro announced that “Cars” will be coming to Magic Kingdom, in a reimagined section of Frontierland.
‘Cars’ Coming to Frontierland
Though fans may have expected a Radiator Springs-inspired Cars Land just like the one in Disney California Adventure, it looks like this area has a brand-new concept. Disney Parks Blog said guests shouldn’t “get too comfortable in Radiator Springs because it’s time to leave the pit stop and head west into exciting new frontiers.”
“The American West has always been about keeping your eyes on the horizon … believing in yourself, carving your own path, and striving toward success. That goes for miners in the mountains, bears from the country, a princess from the bayou … or a racecar from the big city,” D’Amaro said.
The area will include two “Cars”-themed attractions. One invites guests to a thrilling rally race through the mountains. They will take on wild terrain as they race across the landscape climbing mountain trails, dodging geysers, and splashing through mudholes. Though it’s not Radiator Springs Racers from Cars Land, concept art suggests it could be a similar ride system.
The second attraction will be aimed at families with smaller racers.
Construction begins early next year. The “Cars” attractions are part of a major expansion originally introduced as the “Beyond Big Thunder” project. The expansion will also include a new Disney Villains land and will likely mean the demolition of the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island.
Disney began filing permits for Frontierland earlier this year. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad may close for an extended refurbishment during construction.
Frontierland’s other major updates include the recent openings of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Country Bear Musical Jamboree.
