A fire broke out in Tokyo DisneySea at the ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’ attraction, leading to minor injuries of one Cast Member.

According to a report from ANN News, a call was received at Tokyo DisneySea just after 9 p.m. on August 8, stating that a fire broke out from the cable of a ride vehicle, filling the building with smoke. It was reported to have been extinguished quickly.

This cable was near the gondola of the aforementioned “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” attraction.

A 24 year old Cast Member who was working at the attraction had to be taken to the hospital due to smoke inhalation and is reported to have minor injuries. No guests were injured.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is being investigated by the local police and fire department.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

The attraction is based on both the Jules Verne novel and 1954 Disney movie of the same name. Guests board a submarine and dive under the water. A version of the attraction exists at Disneyland Paris, and used to be at Magic Kingdom. The Magic Kingdom version was demolished to make way for Ariel’s Grotto, in the place that is now home to the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

Guests board submarines for a tour with Captain Nemo, only to encounter a Kraken and end up in Atlantis. It opened alongside Tokyo DisneySea in 2001 as part of Mysterious Island.
